Evading arrest, singer Yeng Constantino posted bail amounting to P30,000 on Friday, January 10, on a cyber libel charge filed against her in 2019.

Atty. Joji Alonso, Constantino’s lawyer, said, “Our client Ms. Yeng Constantino-Asuncion has posted bail and an Order approving the same has just been signed.”

He added that they will address the charges “in the coming days” when they receive a copy of the complaint which was filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Surigao del Norte.

The copy of the arrest order was posted by Surigao del Norte 1st District Representative Bingo Matugas on his Facebook page, along with a screenshot of an article by Pep.ph.

“In line with my statement supporting our island doctor, Dr. Esterlina Tan, against cyberbullying, this shows that finally, justice is about to be served. Finally, our good doctor will be vindicated,” Matugas wrote in the caption.

Tan, who filed the complaint against Constantino, accused the singer of violating Sec 4 (c)(4) of Republic Act (RA) No. 10175, or the Cybercrime Prevention Act, which states “the unlawful or prohibited acts of libel as defined in Article 355 of the Revised Penal Code, as amended, committed through a computer system or any other similar means which may be devised in the future.”

It can be recalled that Constantino received online backlash after she ranted about Tan in a July vlog, which is not existing anymore, where she shared her and her husband Yan Asuncion’s “traumatic” experience in Siargao.

In the video, the singer exposed the identity of Tan as she accused her of ‘lacking concern and urgency’ in responding to the need of Asuncion, who got injured while cliff diving in Sugba Lagoon.

She then apologized to Tan after she received heavy criticisms from netizens who slammed her for ‘doctor-shaming.’

After the online backlash she earned, Constantino went on a social media hiatus.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News last September, Constantino revealed that it was the first time she experienced massive bashing throughout her 12-year career in the entertainment industry, adding that she really felt “so sad” and “shocked” following the incident.
