MANILA— China’s new Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian is calling for more interaction and sharing of governance practices between the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the ruling party in the Philippines, the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

The envoy expressed this during the thematic briefing on the Fourth Plenary Session of the 19th Central Committee of the CPC in Makati City on Friday.

Present during the event were PDP-Laban president Senator Koko Pimentel, House Deputy Speaker Rep. Dong Gonzales Jr., vice president for International Affairs of PDP-Laban Secretary Raul Lambino, leaders of the Nacionalista Party, Nationalist People’s Coalition, Lakas-CMD, and National Unity Party, and distinguished members of the Filipino-Chinese community.

Huang was quoted by the Chinese embassy in Manila as saying that political parties of developing countries, such as the CPC and the ruling political parties coalition led by the PDP-Laban, “shoulder great responsibilities to further develop their countries and improve the capacity for governance”.

He stressed the importance of sharing experiences of governance “so as to serve the people better”.

Meanwhile, with 2020 marking the 45th anniversary of China-Philippines diplomatic relations, Huang said is “ready to make all efforts to work together and further promote high-level exchanges, facilitate practical cooperation and enhance mutual trust and understanding between the two countries”.

The meeting, held at Makati Shangri-La Hotel on December 6, was also attended by Wang Ning, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Beijing Municipal Committee.

As early as 2017, PDP-Laban has established a connection with the CPC after Pimentel represented the Philippines and the party in the World Dialogue of Political Parties organized by the CPC in Beijing.

During the dialogue, Pimentel met with Chinese President and CPC General Secretary Xi Jinping and also discussed the need for political parties “to adapt and cooperate with the phenomenon of the global village”.

Pimentel also visited the CPC Central Party School, which trains top government officials and CPC members in matters of governance and public administration. (PR)
