Elizabeth Gokongwei passes away at 85 — family

Elizabeth Gokongwei, the widow of the late business tycoon John Gokongwei, Jr., passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, She was 85.

Her family confirmed this a day after the Gokongwei patriarch, with whom Elizabeth was married for 61 years, was laid to rest.

“Our mother was a very private person. We would like to honor her privacy at this time,” the family said in a statement.

“Private wake details will be shared with friends and family,” it added.

No further details were provided as of writing.

The couple was survived by their six children, Robina, Lance, Lisa, Faith, Hope, and Marcia.

The Gokongwei patriarch, the founder and chairman emeritus of conglomerate JG Summit Holdings, passed away last November 9 at the age of 93.
