Quake-affected families in Mindanao now 53K

MANILA — The number of families affected by the magnitude 6.6 and 6.5 earthquakes that rattled Tulunan, North Cotabato last October 29 and 31 has now climbed to 53,362 or 260,492 individuals, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said in its update Monday.

The report signed and released by NDRRMC executive director Ricardo Jalad said these families are from 322 barangays in Davao Region and Soccksargen.

Also, 11,425 families or 54,431 individuals are now being sheltered at 69 evacuation centers while another 11,042 families which is equivalent to 56,875 persons are being aided outside.

The number of fatalities for the two earthquakes are now 24, with 535 injured and two others still missing at Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen, and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Meanwhile, quake-damaged infrastructure was placed at 37,519 in Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Davao Region, Soccsksargen and BARMM.

As of this posting, assistance extended by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Health, and Office of Civil Defense to the affected families have amounted to PHP61.414 million.
