PH helps Filipinos hurt in Mount Sinai bus crash: DFA
MANILA— The Philippine Embassy in Egypt has extended assistance to the Filipinos who figured in a bus crash in Mount Sinai on Tuesday night, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said on Friday.
DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez said the injured are part of a group of 23 Filipinos who were en route to Israel for a “Holy Land tour”.
The injured Filipinos are at a hospital in Egypt, some of whom have reportedly sustained fractures and minor bruises.
“It seems that those with serious injuries are still under treatment. The Philippine embassy has sent an assistance team because they were far from Cairo,” Meñez told the Philippine News Agency.
“Hindi malinaw kung ilan sa 23 and ‘injured’ kasi karamihan minor bruises lang (It’s not clear how many of the 23 were seriously injured because some only sustained minor bruises),” he added.
Menez said the group requested privacy and asked the embassy not to disclose further details.
“We will respect their wishes,” he said in an earlier statement.
“I can only share that the embassy in Cairo under Ambassador Sulpicio Confiado is providing assistance to them,” he added.
