Pulse Asia: Duterte approval, trust ratings go down

Pulse Asia’s latest survey showed that the trust and approval rating of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte went down to 74% and 78% this September, respectively.

There is an 11-point difference from Duterte’s trust rating back in June this year as he got an 85% While, there is a seven-point difference from Duterte’s approval rating back in June this year, which was also at 85%.

Released on Monday, October 7, the pollster’s latest findings in the September 2019 Ulat ng Bayan Survey also notes that the Chief Executive’s trust ratings went down in Metro Manila, Luzon, and Visayas, but not his home region Mindanao.

The second-in-command was not spared from this decrease trend, as Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo’s 52% and 55% trust and approval ratings dropped to 46% and 50% respectively.

Meanwhile, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III got 66% trust rating and 72% approval rating.

House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano got 62% trust rating and 64% approval rating. While Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin received a trust rating of 34% which was lower by a point than what he got in the last quarter, and an approval rating 42% which was a point higher than his previous.

Pulse Asia’s nationwide survey has an error margin of ± 2.8% at 95% confidence level. It used face-to-face interviews on 1,200 adults aged 18 years old and above and was conducted from September 16 to 22 of this year.

Some national developments that the pollster noted that may have had an effect on the duration of the conduction of the survey are: the investigation on the good conduct time allowance (GCTA), the polio outbreak, the death of a Philippine Military Academy (PMA) student linked to hazing, and the African swine fever (ASF) outbreak.
