MANILA — Three cops assigned at the Southern Police District have been caught sleeping while on duty in Las Piñas City by National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar.

Eleazar made a surprise inspection on Monday morning when he caught Corporals Eugine Ybasco and Jayson Monsale sleeping while their mobile was on standby along Alabang Zapote Road in Pamplona Dos in Las Piñas City.

Also caught sleeping was S/Sgt. Danny Cerbito while on duty as desk officer of Police Community Precinct 2 in Las Piñas.

“Kasi natutulog (They’re sleeping). Anybody pwedeng kunin ‘yung baril (Anybody can get the gun). Pinag-re-report ko sila kasi nagtatakipan sila. Nakita natin nag-iisa lang, ‘yung isa naman nagpapahinga (I told them to report to me) Akala ko nasa service vehicle, ‘yun pala nasa tricycle (I thought he was at the service vehicle, but he was inside the tricycle, sleeping). Kailangan talaga mag-conduct tayo ng inspection (We need to conduct an inspection). We have to check,” Eleazar told reporters on Monday.

He said the policemen were disarmed while investigation is ongoing to determine if they would be held liable for neglect of duty.

“Ang mga nasabing pulis, titiyakin natin na makakasuhan sila ng kasong administratibo at paiimbestigahan ang mga ito (We will make sure that an administrative case will be filed against them. We’ll see if they would be held liable for neglect of duty),” Eleazar said.
