‘High School Musical: The Musical: The Series’ trailer unveiled!

It has been over a decade and three years since we first saw and heard the bell of East High — the school that witnessed stories of the bright and talented Wildcats that, admit it, made us all laugh, cry, and be inspired.

Seeing its facade, its red and white hallway, the cafeteria, that pink locker, and the gym, involuntarily brings out the singer in us; letting the iconic scenes that happened in the trilogy “High School Musical” sink into our minds as if they just happened yesterday.

But with all these years passed, would you be still be excited knowing that you could see East High once more? It’s “Now or Never,” pal!

On Friday, August 23, Disney finally dropped the first trailer for the 10-episode mockumentary series, “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” on its YouTube channel. Although it features the same school in the original movie, the series — to set things straight — is not a remake or sequel to the film with Troy Bolton, Gabriela Montez, Ryan Evans, and Sharpay Evans and more being the cast.

The twist this time, based on the description, is that the series follows “a group of students as they countdown to the opening night of their school’s first-ever production of ‘High School Musical.'” Yup, the characters in this show will be playing the roles of the original cast of the 2006 movie.

“Show-mances blossom; friendships are tested, while new ones are made; rivalries flare; songs are sung; and lives are changed forever as these young people discover the transformative power that only high school theater can provide,” it adds.

The trailer shows us a glimpse of Joshua Bassett who will play the role of Ricky in the series, Olivia Rodrigo as Ricky’s ex-girlfriend, Nini, and Matt Cornett as Nini’s new boyfriend, E.J. Will there be a version two of the Gabriela-Troy-Sharpay love triangle here? We’ll have to watch out for that.

On the other side, the cast also includes Dara Rene, Julia Lester, Frankie Rodriguez, Larry Saperstein, and Mark St. Cyr.

The series’ creator and executive producer Tim Federle said during the D23 Expo on Friday that he likes to think of the show as his “love letter to the original fans.”

“High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” is expected to be released on November 12, along with the launching of Disney+. So buckle up because the “Start of Something New” is about to get real!
