Kathryn Bernardo, Sarah Geronimo share Best Actress Award at Star Awards

Both 23- year-old “Teen Queen” Kathryn Bernardo and 30-year-old singer-actress Sarah Geronimo are hailed as ‘Best Actress’ at the recently concluded 35th Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC) Star Awards for Movies last Sunday, May 31 held at the Newport Performing Arts Theater in Resorts World Manila, Pasay.

Ultimately, the two actresses bested out veteran queens with their performances, Kathryn recognized for her role in the film “The Hows of Us” and Sarah praised for her performance in the Filipino adaptation of Korean movie “Miss Granny.”

After the awards night, Kathryn talks to the Philippine Entertainment Portal and Cinema News about accepting the award on behalf of her fellow celebrity as well, explaining in Filipino, “It’s a shame [Sarah] is not present. We know how much great feedback Miss Granny has received,” adding, “I want to congratulate her also because our movies came out around the same time. I’m happy for Sarah. I know that she worked hard on her film. So, she really deserves the award.”

Kathryn also mentions how she feels “very blessed” with everything happening in her career, revealing, “We had a hard time completing the project of ‘The Hows Of Us,’ but it touched so many people, we learned so much while making the film.” She exclaims, “This is a bonus, this is a dream, this is it… This is my first Best Actress award!

On the same night, as a man of many talents, Ogie Alcasid won best actor award for his performance in “Kuya Wes,” which was an entry in the 14th Cinemalaya Independent Film Festival.

Among the other winners were Cherie Gil as best supporting actress in “Citizen Jake,” Arjo Atayde as best supporting actor in “Buybust,” Ryle Santiago and Danzel Fernandez as new movie actor of the year in “Bakwit Boys” and “Otlum” respectively, and Sanya Lopez as new movie actress of the year for her performance in “Wild and Free.”
