TNT experiences first Commissioner’s Cup loss after NorthPort bags win number three
NorthPort Batang Pier remains on top of their game and unbeaten after serving the Talk N’ Text KaTropa their first 2019 Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Commissioner’s Cup loss, 110-86, last Wednesday, May 29 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay.
Stanley Pringle made his way back on court for Northport after being away due to surgery in the bone spurs of his right ankle, successful with 5-of-8 shooting and a total of 22 points. Rookie Robert Bolick totalled 21 points, while import Prince Ibeh had a double-double of 18 points and 20 rebounds. Sean Anthony, Von Lanete, and Mo Tautuaa contributed 13, 12, and 11 points respectively as well. On the other hand, Troy Rosario fought hard to keep Talk N’ Text unbeaten with 22 points, aided by teammate RR Pogoy, who had 19. Terrence Jones and Jayson Castro chipped 17 and 10 points as well.
NorthPort coach Pido Jarencio told the press after the game in Filipino, “I don’t have much to say because we almost played a perfect game especially on defense. Our defense was great especially on Terrence Jones,” referring to limiting the player who usually averages 42. He added, “Sean Anthony and Mo Tautuaa were switching. They restrained the high-scoring import. Our mindset is to play good defense,” elaborating, “At the same time, Stanley’s return was beautiful. It’s just timing.”
In reference to that, Pringle admitted that he still isn’t completely recovered and plans to improve in the succeeding games, telling the media, “It’s coming back. Maybe two more games, I can maybe play the whole game again. I’m just waiting, trying to be patient.”
NorthPort will try to continue their winning streak as they face defending champions Barangay Ginebra on Saturday, June 1 at the Mall of Asia Arena. Talk N’ Text, on the other hand, will try to get back to their winning ways as they face the Phoenix pulse Fuelmasters the day after at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
