Jungee Marcelo bags PhilPop Music grand prize
MANILA – Veteran songwriter Jungee Marcelo bags this year’s Philippine Popular Music grand prize for the song “Salbabida” sung by R&B Princess Kyla.
The songwriter grabbed the top prize for the third Phil Pop Music held at the Meralco Theatre, bringing home P1 million cash prize and a trophy by the famous glass sculptor, Ramon Orlina.
Marcelo was a winner of last year’s PhilPop, but only landed the second-runner up award with his song “Pansamantagal.”
Toto Sorioso’s “Awit Mo’y Nandito Pa,” became the first prize winner earning P500,000 and a trophy by Orlina.
Sorioso’s entry was interpreted by Youtube sensations Aldrich Talonding and James Bucong, and was meant to be played as a wedding march.
Daryl Ong’s “Torpe” recorded by Kris Lawrence won the second prize award with P250,000 and Orlina’s trophy.
Meanwhile, “Kung Akin ang Langit” by news anchor Chi Datu-Bocobo and Isaac Garcia won the Spinnr People’s Choice award and P100,000.
All the prizes were personllay handed to the winners by PhilPop Foundation chairman Manny V. Pangilinan together with PhilPop executive director Maestro Ryan Cayabyab and top officials of the MVP Group of Companies.
