Being told that you are an inspiration for them is something that is really flattering. This indescribable feeling is what actress Nadine Lustre exactly gets when it was revealed that she was the inspiration behind Wave, the newest heroine of Marvel.

Comic Odyssey has shared on its Facebook page a new comic book cover of the Filipina superhero designed by artists Mico Suayan and Rain Beredo. In the photo, Wave is seen donning a black cropped suit with a line dashes of green and carrying two swords on both hands; while behind her is the Philippine flag.

Mico treated Marvel fans with “a little trivia,” revealing that he patterned his rendition of the morena-skinned protagonist after Nadine.

Reacting to this disclosure, the Kapamilya actress said she felt surprised and shocked when a friend of her told her about it.

“Oh my god,” were the first words Nadine uttered to the Entertainment reporters who sought for her comment. “It’s really flattering and it’s such an honor kasi (because) we all know Wave is the very first Filipina in [Marvel] and I’m really grateful.”

Wave’s first look was unveiled by comic book writer Greg Pak on his Twitter account last March 9, just two months before the War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas #1, where Wave will first appear, will be released.

The heroine, who was earlier described by Marvel as “mysterious,” will be teaming up with other new superheroes from China, Aero and Sword Master, to save the world from the villains.

Filipino comic book artist Leinil Francis Yu, who co-created and designed Wave, had revealed to ABS-CBN News that the character hails from Cebu.

Spilling the beans, Leinil said Wave’s powers are water and tech-based and that her alter-ego’s name is “tentatively” Pearl Pangan.
