PH, Thailand celebrate 70 years of ties thru cultural exchange

MANILA — The Royal Thai Embassy held a screening of the Thai film “2,215” at the Far Eastern University (FEU) Auditorium last Thursday, as part of the 70th anniversary celebration of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the Kingdom of Thailand.
The FEU Auditorium, considered a cultural center in the 1950s, is also celebrating its 70th anniversary this year.
The movie tells the story of a famous rock star in Thailand, who felt the need to bring attention to the medical needs of Thai hospitals. He spearheads a charity marathon, running 2,215 km.
from southern to northern Thailand, to raise funds for 11 hospitals across the country.
The event was attended by FEU administrators and students, members of the diplomatic corps, and other guests.
“(This) event is among the series of public diplomacy activities in celebration of the 70th anniversary of our diplomatic relationship (dating back to) 1949,” Thai Ambassador to the Philippines Vasin Ruangprateepsaeng said during his opening remarks.
According to the envoy, the movie screening will not only enhance the understanding of and strengthen the friendship between Thailand and the Philippines, but also gives the audience inspiration from the movie lead’s act of sharing and kindness.
He also expressed hope that the movie would instill in the minds of the youth the need to take on social responsibility for the benefit of the society.
