After 6 losses, Generika finally reigns victorious in first win against Foton
Generika has finally obtained their very first win after six consecutive losses at the expense of opponents Foton, who they conquered in a five-set game for the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Grand Prix at the Flying V Filoil Arena in San Juan last Wednesday, March 6.
The set scores ended 25-21, 25-22, 19-25, 20-25, and 15-11, with Kanjana Kuthaisong, the Lifesavers’ import from Thailand, scoring a total of 25 points with 15 digs and 10 excellent receptions. Fiola Cabellos also added 20 points from 17 spikes, two service aces, and one block, while Kseniya Kocygit and Mikaela Lopez chipped 11 points each. Setter Jamie Lavitoria provided 23 excellent sets and scored four points, while Bia General had 29 digs and 24 excellent receptions as libero.
Generika-Ayala coach Sherwin Meneses told the media after the game in Filipino, “I just told them to stick to the momentum once we get it because we’re really catching up,” adding, “I told the players that their condition is still good. They’re not yet tired even though our games are so close together. That helped. I hope we get a winning streak.” He concluded, “We’re happy because we’re starting to adjust and gain that chemistry.”
Player of the Game Lavitoria, who is a former Ateneo Lady Eagle, added to her coach’s statement saying, “Yesterday in training, we had to make a few adjustments and from there, we just knew that we had to keep going and not look back at the losses before the game today.”
For the tornadoes, who shares the bottom with Generika and is suffering their sixth loss, Courtney Felinski fought hard with 24 points at 14 digs and 14 excellent receptions. Gen Casugod provided 16 hits, while Mina Aganon scored 14. Import Selime Ilyasoglu added 13 markers for Team Foton.
Generika-Ayala will try to streak their wins, as Coach Sherwin suggests, next Tuesday, March 12 as they face PLDT, while Foton is taking on Petron on the same day.
