UE Lady Warriors obtain first victory against winless Falcons
The University of the East (UE) Lady Warriors have finally gotten a taste of victory as they snag their first win against the Adamson University (AdU) Lady Falcons in a four-set University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP) Season 81 game last Wednesday, February 27 at the Flying V Filoil Arena in San Juan.
Open spiker Judith Abil obtained the Player of the Game title for her alma mater at 22 points all from attacks, also performing with 21 excellent receptions and 20 digs. Despite a pain in her right shoulder, teammate Mean Mendrez contributed 14 points as well. Lady Warriors Geline Olarve also chipped 14 points, Seth Rodriguez had 12 points, and Libero Kath Arado also worked hard for 39 points and 28 excellent receptions.
For Adamson, Eli Soyud tried to answer back with 20 points, while Bern Flora contributed 15 points off 17 digs and 17 excellent receptions.
After the game, UE Head Coach Karl Dimaculangan talked to the media about their win, saying in Filipino, “Maybe during our last game against NU, we collapsed and it’s like we didn’t even play. I told them that they have to play properly, we don’t have to be pressured,” adding, “Just because we improved, it doesn’t mean we automatically win. This win is big for us because this is their self-reward that we finally got a win.” However, the young coach concluded, “We will truly prepare for our upcoming games.”
The Lady Warriors will attempt to feed off of this high as they face the Ateneo Lady Eagles on Sunday, March 3 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. On the same day, the Lady Falcons will try to finally get that first win as they compete against the National University (NU) Lady Bulldogs.
