TV news reporter found shot to death in Honduras
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras — The body of a television reporter has been found in Honduras one day after he went missing. He had been shot twice.
National Police chief Ramon Sabillon says the body of TV reporter Herlyn Espinal was found Monday. It was half naked and hidden behind a rock on the side of a highway. Sabillon says Espinal’s family has identified the body.
Police report one suspect has been detained.
Espinal was 32 and worked for a news program on Channel 3 television in the violence-wracked city of San Pedro Sula.
Security Minister Arturo Corrales says it is unlikely Espinal was killed because of his work as a journalist.
Honduras’ governmental human rights commission says 37 media workers have been slain in the country over the last 10 years.
