Fifty-five-year-old Allan Caidic, who donned his moniker of “The Triggerman” did not fail to still meet claims that he is the best shooter the country has ever had, although retired from the Professional Basketball Association (PBA) still being able to hit 46 three-pointers and scoring a total of 142 points during an exhibition game in Candon, Ilocos Sur last Tuesday, December 11.

Caidic faced the vice mayors of the province, while guided by fellow PBA legends like Gerry Codinero, EJ Feihl, Gerry Esplana, and Pdio Jarencio on his team. The score ended at 184-73 of what Caidic describes was just a “fun game.” He hit nine threes in the first quarter and 37 in the final quarter alone, but Caidic refers to his teammates Esplana and Pido as the playmakers saying in Filipino, “They told me that I should break the three-point record,” adding, “It was just for fun. All of the passes went to me.”

Caidic was 1st pick overall in the 1987 PBA Draft, selected by the Great Taste Coffee Makers. He broke numerous records while playing in the pros, including most scored in a single game (79 points), most three-point field goals made in a single game (17 threes), most consecutive freethrows made (76 points), and most three-point field goals in a career (1,242 threes). When he played for the Philippine National Team during the 80s, opponents constantly reminded each other to watch out for ‘Philippine No.8,’ his jersey number at the time. In 2009, he made the PBA Hall of Fame. He also impressed National Basketball Association (NBA) star Glen Rice in 2010 after hitting 14 threes and scoring 54 points in an NBA Asia Challenge match.
