Generika dominates Smart as entry way to PSL All-Filipino Conference 2018 Semifinals

The Lifesavers are one step closer to that championship trophy as they leave the Giga Hitters out of the running as Generika defeats Smart in a three-set game last Thursday, November 6 for the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All Filipino Conference 2018 game held at the Batangas City Sports Complex. The sets ended 25-16, 26-24, and 25-22.

Mikaela Lopez led her team with 16 points, 11 kills, four blocks, and an ace, while Ria Meneses followed with 15 points. Patty Orendain and Fiola Cabellos performed exceptionally as well, with 14 hits and 11 points respectively. On the other hand, their opponent Smart still fought hard, with Jerrili Malabanan and Aiko Urdas scoring a total of 22 points, while teammate Gretchel Soltones made 21 excellent receptions and 17 gigs. Cabellos said that they got thupper handnd by “reducing errors and being a complete team,” stating in Filipino, “Of course we thought that our scores were really close, so that’s what we did.”

Lopez attributed their win to “following whatever Coach Sherwin Meneses tells [them] to do,” because, “that was so important for [that] game,” adding in Filipino, “Because during the last conference, Smart beat us so we have to redeem ourselves.”

The next time the Generika-Ayala Lifesavers will compete is next week at the Muntinlupa Sports Center, where they will be facing the winner in the knockout between second place F2 Logistics and seventh place Cocolife.
