The Cignal HD Spikers finished their first-round run by winning their match against the Smart Giga Hitters in a three-set game for the Philippine Superliga (PSL) All-Filipino Conference at the Filoil Flying V Centre last Tuesday, November 20. All three sets ended at 25-20.

Open hitter Rachel Daquis and National Team member Mylene Paat both contributed a total of 15 points for Cignal, while teammate Royse Tubino produced 10. They became a strong trio rallying against opponent Smart, whose highest scorer was Gretchel Soltones, who produced 13 points. Smart head coach Roger Goyeb attempted to shuffle the lineup, but no combination seemingly worked.

Cignal HD Head Coach Edgar Barroga shared that he hopes his team performs the same way in the second round because “everything clicked for [them] and [his] team really showed its potential.” Coach Barroga stated, “We’re really looking forward to our continued development heading into the next round. I hope we can play this way consistently,” referring to their first round performance where they finished with a 4-3 record. Prior to the game, the coach shared that he wanted his girls “to be more confident against any team – be it a team-to-beat like Petron or any other team,” because “They have what it takes to win games.”

Round 2 for the Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference begins on November 24 at the Caloocan Sports Complex.
