P27-M tourism village to rise in Ilocos Norte town

LAOAG CITY — A PHP27-million tourism village will soon rise in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, which is expected to further boost tourism – not only in the said town but the entire province, which was visited by close to a million tourists on an annual basis.

Poblacion village chief Joegie Jimenez, in an interview Sunday, said the groundbreaking of Amianan Tourism Village is set on Dec. 7, 2018 and will be attended by Department of Tourism (DOT) officials.

Jimenez said the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) approved last Aug. 8 the site development of the village-initiated tourism village for PHP27 million, following inspection by a team of architects and engineers.

The Amianan Tourism Village will be put up on a 5,430 square meter government lot. The site development also covers the putting up of a multi-purpose hall, construction of a floating stage or man-made lagoon, gazebo, Al Fresco restaurant, fish pond, an organic farm, a public toilet and landscaping.

Gifted with man-made and natural wonders such as the Kapurpurawan Rocks Formation, Kaangrian and Avis waterfalls, and the historic Cape Bojeador lighthouse among others, Burgos town is being frequented by a million tourists that visit the province annually.

To have a share in the tourism master plan of the province, Jimenez, who was a former provincial tourism officer of Ilocos Norte, initiated the establishment of a local investment hub in his village located along the national highway, which is just 45-minute drive from Laoag City.

“We are thankful to the DOT, TIEZA and the local government unit of Burgos for supporting our project,” said Jimenez citing there are also private investors who signified their intent to partner with them once the site is fully developed.
