ADU basketball player Sean Manganti responds to hater comments after victory vs UP

Adamson University (AdU) basketball player Sean Mangati spoke out during a press conference in response to the flames he’s receiving from University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons fans after defeating the Katipunan-based squad last Sunday, October 29. Mangati led the Soaring Falcons to their eighth win in this season of the University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP). The score ended at 80-72, with the forward’s three-pointer at the last 74 seconds securing them the game, which was held at the Filoil Flying V Arena.

Mangati led his team into a Final 4 spot with 10 points and six rebounds, but all attention was on him as he also scored the biggest shot of the game. This was the third time Mangati scored groundbreaking points during a match against UP, the first during their 73-71 win during season 80 on October 4, and the second during their 69-68 win this season 81 on September 26.

The veteran forward admitted that this caused “so many bashers from UP,” adding, “They hate me. They hate me.” He explained, “If we have a game, and UP is playing before us and I’m walking to the arena, I get dirty looks. You don’t want to see my DM box man, it’s terrible.”

In the end, Mangati says “It’s a dog-eat-dog world,” and that he “ignores” the negativity and “it doesn’t bother him.” In conclusion, he stated his motive, “I’ll just try to get a win every time we play them.”

UP Fighting Maroons Coach Bo Perasol backed up Mangati sharing with reporters, “Nobody’s going to say [something] bad at you if you don’t count. But if you are making yourself a thorn on the side of your opponent, everybody’s going to be against you. It’s just an example. He’s a thorn.”

AdU’s next opponent for round two of eliminations in the UAAP is the Ateneo Blue Eagles, with the game happening at Ynares Antipolo at 4 pm on Sunday, November 4.
