Enhanced southwest monsoon to bring light to heavy rains Monday

MANILA— Typhoon “Maymay” (international name Jebi) is now out of the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) but will continue to enhance the southwest monsoon, bringing scattered light to moderate rains in most parts of the country on Monday.

In its severe weather bulletin at 5 a.m., the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the typhoon has slightly weakened and has no direct effect in any part of the country.

However, Metro Manila, Pangasinan, central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol region, Mimaropa, Zamboanga Peninsula and the Visayas will have cloudy skies with light to moderate, and at times, heavy rain showers and thunderstorms caused by the southwest monsoon.

At 4 a.m., “Maymay” was last observed at 1,340 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes outside PAR. Maximum sustained winds of up to 180 kms. per hour near the center and gustiness of up to 220 kph. It is moving north northwest at 20kph.

Residents in these areas are warned against possible flooding and landslides.
