MANILA — The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Saturday it would arrange the repatriation of a 37-year-old overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who reportedly committed suicide in Manama, Bahrain on Thursday.

In a statement, the department said the OFW from Quezon was found hanging from a ceiling fan at the flat he was sharing with his sister, north of Manama.

The Philippine Embassy in Bahrain is currently in touch with local authorities in connection with the case.

Ambassador Alfonso Ver said the embassy is communicating with the family of the deceased worker, assuring them that the embassy would arrange for the repatriation of the remains as soon as authorities finish medico-legal procedures.

The OFW’s death comes less than a month after a Filipino also allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in Saudi Arabia on July 31.

In April, a household service worker was also reported to have jumped to death from her employer’s apartment in Madinah, also in Saudi Arabia. Her death is still under investigation.
