De Lima orders in-depth probe of new hazing case
MANILA — Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima on Monday ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an in-depth investigation into the new case of hazing.
According to De Lima, she has instructed NBI Director Virgilio Mendez to coordinate with the Philippine National Police (PNP) in the case of Guillo Cesar Servando, a sophomore HRM (hotel and restaurant management) student of the De La Salle University-College of Saint Benilde who died due to a violent fraternity initiation.
Initial investigation showed that Servando died when he sustained serious physical injuries after undergoing a fraternity initiation rite by the Alpha Kappa Rho (AKRHO).
Aside from Servando, three fellow students have also sustained serious physical injuries after undergoing the initiation.
