YouTube personality Wil Dasovich was named as vlogger of the year by Shorty Awards.

The Shorty Awards is a major awards that honors “the best of social media by recognizing the influencers, brands and organizations on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Musically and more.

Dasovich, who gained popularity for his travel vlogs in the Philippines and around the globe, admitted that he was excited to win just to meet his idol, Casey Neistat who is also a YouTube personality and filmmaker.

“Two and a half years ago, the first time I’ve even heard the word vlog was Casey Neistat. I just graduated from college, I was like what is this, I want to do this, it was so much fun.

He motivated me and inspired me,” Wil said in his speech.

The 26-year-old vlogger bested other finalists: Filipino-American Alex Wassabi; actress and model iJustine; and other vloggers Jason Nash, Scotty Sire, and Todd Smith.

Wil attended the awards ceremony in New York with his co-vloggers: girlfriend Alodia Gosiengfiao, sister Haley Dasovich, Ashley Gosiengfiao, Daniel Marsh, Jako de Leon, and Josh Yozura.

He then expressed his gratitude to his friends who came all the way from the Philippines and other countries.

“Thank you, everyone. This is incredible. Thank you to the Philippines and everyone out there,” he added.

Alodia, meanwhile, congratulated her significant other for winning the prestigious award as she posted a photo of Wil receiving the trophy.

“Congratulations to Wil for winning Vlogger of the Year at the Shorty Awards!! So proud of you!! Thank you so much to everyone for the support!

” she wrote as a caption on her Instagram post.
