No need for arrest, 3 senators to surrender voluntarily
MANILA – Once the warrants are issued, the police may no longer need to arrest the three senators charged with plunder as they are prepared to voluntarily surrender to the authorities.
Senators Juan Ponce Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada and Ramon Revilla Jr. told Director Benjamin Magalong, chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) that they are committed to surrender once arrested.
The National Bureau of Investigation, as a separate law enforcement agency will also be performing its duty in the carrying out of the Sandiganbayan order.
The two arresting agencies said they will coordinate in the serving of the arrest so that conflict will not arise.
“I’m sure that there would be no conflict or overlapping of functions,” Chief Superintendent Reuben Theodore Sindac, PNP-Public Information Office director, said.
Sindac also said that the senators are likely to be brought at the PNP Multi-Purpose Center to accommodate the possible surge of their supporters.
Following regular procedures, taking of fingerprints and mug shots will follow after the arrest.
The three senators were earlier charged with plunder, a non-bailable offense, for their alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.
