DOJ better now than before, says Aguirre
Despite being linked to multiple controversies in his last days as head of the Department of Justice (DOJ), newly-resigned Justice secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II said on Friday that the agency is “better now compared to when they found it.”
Aguirre’s resignation was accepted by President Rodrigo Duterte just yesterday, and he was immediately replaced on the same day by Senior Deputy Executive Secretary Menardo Guevarra.
Thanking Duterte for the trust and confidence he gave, the former secretary said in a statement, “In our own humble way, we have delivered on our promise to make the DOJ better than when we found it.”
He attributed DOJ’s success not to himself alone but to everyone who was dedicated to the department’s goal.
“The DOJ is better not because of me but because everybody committed heart, body, and soul to march towards a single cadence,” Aguirre said.
“As I leave the Department of Justice, I find comfort in the thought that, by our collective efforts, we have improved the DOJ in key areas.
We have achieved this by hard work and indomitable faith in the protection, providence and guidance of the Almighty,” he added.
Aguirre expressed his gratitude to the good men and women in the DOJ, as according to him, “they have shown him how it is to serve selflessly in government.
