Duterte ready to work with political rivals
President Rodrigo Duterte welcomes the idea of working with his political rivals for the sake of seeing the country progress.
The president suggested to set aside political parties and unite for the betterment of the nation.
“Let us forget partisanship, let us just have partnership,” Duterte said as he opened the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-National Executive Coordinating Committee (MRRD-NECC) National Convention at the Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay City.
He stressed that if they continue competing, nothing will happen and that it would be best to just help each other.
Moreover, for Duterte, it wouldn’t be a big of a deal to work with the supporters of his opponents in the 2016 elections.
“If a majority of the people support me, I would appreciate it. Whether you helped me or not, whether you were for Binay, Grace or Mar, I do not care,” the President said, adding that he already won so there is no reason for him to continue dwelling on it.
Even with this warm approach towards his rivals, Duterte maintained that he will continue his “tough” ways in eradicating corruption and drugs and that they too must adhere to this.
“I promised there would be no corruption. Many have been affected including our comrades in the party and those who were with us during the campaign. I will repay debt of gratitude but do not be involved in graft and corruption because it won’t help you…with regard to drugs, I said do not destroy my country. Do not destroy our children. They are our only hope,” Duterte said.
