KZ wants to sing Anak in Singer 2018
Representing the Pearl of the Orient Seas in the Asian giant’s singing competition, KZ Tandingan wants to take the Filipino pride in her to the next level by singing one of the country’s most iconic songs.
KZ said in an interview with PUSH that she hopes to bring to the Chinese singing stage Freddie Aguilar’s “Anak.” In fact, the song was already translated in Chinese and was well-loved in the country.
“Kasi (Because) aside from it’s one of the most beautiful OPM (Original Pinoy Music) [songs] ever written, sobrang sikat din kasi siya sa (it is really popular in) China so kung kakantahin ko man siya, lalo nilang maiintindihan kasi alam nila ang kanta (if I were to sing it, they will understand it better because they know the song),” she said.
“And alam mo ‘yun, nakaka-proud na may OPM song na sobrang sikat sa ibang bansa na kung hindi nila trinanslate, hindi nila maiintindihan ‘di ba? Kumbaga, nagkaroon ng connection ang ibang lahi sa kanta ng mga Pinoy (And you know, it should make us proud that an OPM song that is really famous in another country that they had to translate it because they do not understand, right?” KZ added.
As of her recent adventures in her stay in Singer 2018, KZ managed to snatch the 4th spot of the competition. She was also able to meet her idol, international singer Jessie J – who was one of the inspirations in her singing style.
In previous interviews, KZ also said that whatever results she gets, the focal point is that a Filipino singer was able to penetrate the Chinese market.
While opportunities in her singing career before the Chinese community may arise, KZ said in the interview that she still wants to continue what she started in the Philippines.
“We will work hard to find the center of everything kasi ayokong pabayaan kung ano man ‘yung na-build ko in six years dito sa Pilipinas (because I do not want to abandon what I built in six years here in the Philippines). Gusto ko dito pa rin ako based, kung may work ako don tsaka ako lilipat don, pero kapag wala, dito lang ako. Mas masaya, mas komportable ako dito (I still want to be based here, if I have work there, I will go there, but if there is none, I will be here. I am happier and more comfortable here),” she said.
