CEU stings Zark’s-Lyceum to stay unbeaten

MANILA — CEU sent Zark’s-Lyceum back to earth with a 91-85 win to stay undefeated in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup at the Marikina Sports Center on Tuesday night.

Rod Ebondo went for a 30-20 as the Scorpions quickly made the Jawbreakers, who last week took home the PCCL title, realize that they are back in the D-League.

Both teams actually went toe-to-toe despite Zark’s-Lyceum losing foreign reinforcement Mike Nzeusseu to an ankle sprain early in the game.

But a 7-1 run ended the game for CEU as the team moves up to 3-0.

“We’re so happy dahil nanalo kami against LPU (We’re so happy because we won against LPU),” said Coach Yong Garcia. “I’m very thankful to the players. Tinrabaho talaga nila yung panalo. (They really worked hard to win.)”

Ebondo actually finished with 33 points and 20 rebounds as he easily found his way inside with Nzeusseu, who only had two points before hurting his ankle, at the sidelines.

CJ Perez came up with 17 points for Zark’s-Lyceum, which fell to 4-2.

In the curtain-raiser, Che’Lu-San Sebastian trampled Go for Gold-CSB, 87-65.

Allyn Bulanadi led the Revellers with 15 points, while Samboy De Leon made three triples to add 14.

Justin Gutang led the Scratchers, who were lethargic all game long, with 12 markers.

“Mas prepared kami ngayon (We are more prepared now.),” said Coach Stevenson Tiu when he compared the win to Che’Lu-San Sebastian’s tough grind on Thursday against JRU.
