MANILA— The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) on Wednesday reminded that its attached agency, the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD) is accepting entries for the 2018 Outstanding Research and Development (R&D) Awards until January 31.

The annual Awards aim to recognize the Filipino scientists’ projects on industry, energy and emerging technology.

It has four categories namely

  • Industrial technology (process, metals and engineering, chemicals, mining and minerals, food processing)
  • Energy, utilities and systems (alternative sources of energy, energy sufficiency, transportation)
  • Emerging technology (materials science/nanotechnology, genomics/biotechnology, ICT, space technology applications, photonics, electronics and semiconductor)
  • Special concerns (climate change adaptation, disaster risk and reduction management, environment).

PCIEERD said winners in each category would win PHP300,000 cash. Filipino researchers, scientists, engineers from universities, R&D institutions and private industries may join the competition.

Entries should be R&D projects done in the Philippines and were completed between January 2015 to December 2017, PCIEERD said. Projects must have been completed either by an individual or a group.

The complete R&D Awards guidelines may be downloaded from the DOST-PCIEERD’s website.
