MANILA— In the wake of the approval of the increase in the base pay of all military and uniformed personnel, Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said Friday police personnel found to be engaging in illegal activities face immediate dismissal from office.

“Kahit hindi nag-increase yung sweldo ng kapulisan, kahit ang basehan natin yung lumang sweldo pa, wala pa rin rason para gumawa ng katiwalian. Mas lalo ngayon na tumaas ang sweldo, doble ang sweldo mas lalong walang rason na gumawa ng katiwalian ang ating kapulisan (Even if the cops’ pay did not increase, even if we base it on the old pay scale, there is no reason for police officers to be corrupt, especially now that their salary has been doubled) ,” said dela Rosa, adding that with or without the pay hike, police personnel should shun corrupt activities and all forms of abuse.

On Jan. 1, President Rodrigo Duterte signed the joint resolution of Congress authorizing the increase in the base pay of military and uniformed personnel.

Prior to the Chief Executive’s signing of the resolution, a Police Officer 1 (PO1) receives a monthly base pay of PHP14,834.

Under the approved resolution, the lowest ranking police officer would now receive PHP29,668 monthly, or a 100 percent increase in base pay.

Meanwhile, the PNP chief’s previous monthly base pay of PHP67,500 would increase by 79 percent to PHP121, 143.
