MANILA — New local cement player, Big Boss Cement Inc. (BBCI), targets to spend around PHP2 billion for expansion of its manufacturing plant in Porac, Pampanga in its bid to increase production capacity to meet the country’s growing demand for cement.
BBCI President Engr. Gilbert Cruz told reporters its Porac cement plant will start in March producing 1.

5 million bags of cement per month, generating PHP3.6 billion in revenues a year.

Cruz noted the production capacity of the plant can still be increased five times.

“Since we were able to acquire more land in the area, we decided to increase the capacity,” he said.

He said the company will also build a third plant in Luzon probably in six months, as it rides on the government’s “Build, Build, Build” infrastructure program.

Citing data from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Cruz said all the existing manufacturing plants in the country cannot cope up with the rising demand for cement estimated at 40 million metric tons over the next five years.

He stressed there is an artificial oversupply because of importations.

“If you go down to the bottom of it, there’s still a huge demand for the lack of cement.  The company—Big Boss—we believe that we should be able to help the country to fill in this demand instead of relying on imports,” he added.

Meanwhile, BBCI, a 100-percent Filipino-owned company, has invented a revolutionary cement manufacturing process that results in stronger structures and the most environment-friendly cement in the world today.

Its patent-pending manufacturing process makes use of readily available raw materials, such as lahar and does not require excessive heat in order to produce high quality products.

“We are excited at the prospect of making a positive impact not only in the local construction industry but also in terms of decreasing air pollution and damage to the environment,” Cruz added. Its first product will be available in the market in March 2018.
