MANILA — Filipino bowler Krizziah Lyn Tabora defeated Malaysian Siti Safiyah Amirah Abdul Rahman in the women’s final of the 53rd QubicaAMF World Cup in Hermosillo, Mexico.

In a news report posted on the tournament website on Sunday (Manila time), the 26-year-old Tabora scored 236 against Siti Safiyah’s 191 to claim the championship trophy after their title showdown at the Bol 300 lanes in Sonora, a state in the northwestern Mexico.

Tabora, who placed third after all the qualifying games, won over second placer Colombian Rocio Restrepo, 249-222 to advance against Siti Safiyah.

Siti Safiyah, who was No. 4, made it to final after beating No. 1 and defending champion Jenny Wegner of Sweden, 227-197.

Tabora has expressed her excitement for winning the World Cup.

“I know people at home have been watching on the live streaming and I’ve already got lots of notifications from friends and family. It has been a good year for me. Our ladies team won bronze in the SEA Games and then we got silver in the Asian Indoor Games. But this is far and away the best!” said Tabora, a member of the team that won the bronze in the SEA Games in 2015 (Singapore) and 2017 (Malaysia).

Meanwhile, American Jakob Butturff outclassed Colombian Oscar Rodriguez, 246-201, to win the men’s title.

Butturff downed Malaysian Ahmad Muaz, 266-176, in the semifinal.

Rodriguez, who was No. 4, prevailed over top seed Venezuelan Ildemaro Ruiz, 232-193. in the other semifinal match.

“I was leading the US Open by 600 pins but I lost in the final. That was heartbreaking but this makes up for it. I’ve now won 13 PBA regional titles and two national titles so I came here full of hope. It’s just great to win such a prestigious title,” said Butturff was quoted as saying in the report.
