PEZA okays medical tourism project in Makati City
MANILA — The Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA) has approved the medical tourism project of Centuria Medical Development Corp. in Makati City.
PEZA Director General Charito Plaza said the investment promotion agency has registered the PHP2.44-billion Centuria Medical Makati as a medical tourism facility.
Plaza said Centuria Medical Makati is the country’s largest outpatient facility.
She added that Centuria currently has 200 medical specialists.
She noted that this is the fourth PEZA-registered medical tourism facility in the country, and the second in Metro Manila in addition to St. Luke’s Medical Center in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig City.
There are also medical tourism facilities in Batangas and Cebu, according to Plaza.
These medical tourism facilities cater to high-grade medical tourists.
According to the Medical Tourism Index (MTI) 2016 by Medical Tourism Association, the Philippines ranked 19th as top medical tourism destination in the world, down from rank eight in MTI 2015.
