HALIFAX — Testimony in the trial of a Halifax lawyer charged with sexual assault and administering a stupefying drug wrapped up Tuesday with the lawyer being cross examined by the Crown.

Lyle Howe was charged after the alleged incident involving the woman in March 2011.

The final day of testimony saw Howe sparring with the Crown attorney over how he was being questioned.

While being cross-examined about whether his evidence was “convenient” to support his story about what happened the night of the alleged assault, Howe told the Crown he thought the questions were inappropriate.

The woman has testified that she doesn’t remember what happened after she and Howe sat on a couch and started to kiss about 20 minutes after he arrived at her apartment.

She said she woke up the next morning feeling sore and soon concluded she had been drugged and raped.

Howe has said he had consensual sex with the woman and has denied administering a drug.

Howe was the last witness in the case.

Lawyers will make their closing arguments Wednesday, and jurors will begin deliberations Friday.
