SAN JOSE De BUENAVISTA, Antique – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in the province has now registered 1,180 boats in the northern part, particularly in the towns of Libertad and Caluya including the island of Semirara, as it carries out the Safety, Security and Environmental Numbering System (SSENS) for all Philippine vessels or watercrafts.

During the Talakayan media forum on Tuesday, PCG Antique Station Commander LTJG Rockcliff C. Buling said they still expect the number of registered boats to increase as they continue to conduct their information and education campaign in central and southern coastal barangays of Antique Province.

The SSENS registration started in September.

“SSENS is very important to help municipalities prevent motorized bancas from being used in illegal fishing activities and other forms of illegal activities,” Buling said.

He said that through the SSENS they are able to gather information also on the owner or operator of the boat, which is then placed in a databank and to help in resolving security boundaries in the future.

He added that the SSENS covers all boats including pleasure yachts.
