‘Die Beautiful’ dominates 2017 Luna Awards
The comedy/drama film entitled ‘Die Beautiful’ has bagged majority of the awards in the 35th Luna Awards as the Film Academy of the Philippines recognized the winners during its awarding ceremony held at Resorts World Manila on August 26.
The Metro Manila Film Fest (MMFF) entry, which was directed by Jun Robles Lana and starred by Kapuso artist Paolo Ballesteros, was awarded as Best Picture, Best Direction for Jun Lana and Best Supporting Actor for Christian Bables.
The 2016 MMFF entry also took home Best Screenplay and Best Editing.
On the other hand, actors Hasmine Kilip and Bembel Roco won the top acting trophies, Best Actress and Best Actor, for their role in “Pamilya Ordinaryo” and “Pauwi Na.”
Meanwhile, Chai Fonacier bagged the Best Supporting Actress award for her role in “Patay na si Hesus.”

- Best Actress, Hasmine Kilip: Pamilya Ordinaryo
- Best Supporting Actor, Christian Bables: Die Beautiful
- Best Supporting Actress, Chai Fonacier: Patay Na Si Hesus
- Best Screenplay, Rody Vera: Die Beautiful
- Best Cinematography, Lee Briones-Meily: Ignacio de Loyola
- Best Production Design, Leo Velasco, Jr.: Ignacio de Loyola
- Best Editing, Benjamin Gonzales Tolentino: Die Beautiful
- Best Musical Score, Ryan Cayabyab: Ignacio de Loyola
- Best Sound, Albert Michael Idioma: Ignacio de Loyola
- Best Picture: Die Beautiful
Furthermore, several special awards were also given in the awarding ceremony. Veteran Actor Eddie Garcia was this year’s recipient of the Golden Reel Award for his contribution as an actor and director in a seven decade long career.
The Fernando Poe Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista for his continuing support for Philippine cinema.
Production designer Des Bautista also received the Manuel De Leon Award for Exemplary Achievements.
Meanwhile, the Lamberto Avellana Memorial Award was granted to Bibsy Carballo, Mario O’Hara, and Lolita Rodriguez.
The Film Academy of the Philippines also handed to ABS-CBN Chie Content Officer Charo Santos-Concio and Director Lav Diaz the Awards of Appreciation.
