MANILA — Senator Loren Legarda on Friday condemned the recent terror attack in Barcelona, Spain and stood in solidarity with families of the victims following the incident that left four Irish citizens of Filipino descent injured.

“We stand with the people of Spain and the international community in condemning the terrorist attack that has claimed innocent lives in Barcelona,” Legarda, chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, said in a statement.

“Our thoughts and prayers go to those whose loved ones perished and wish a speedy recovery to the injured”

Legarda described the attacks as “atrocious and cowardly” and stressed that the act had no place in civilized and peace loving societies.

She further said that such acts only “strengthen” people’s resolve to defeat the so-called attack against humanity.

The senator, meanwhile, urged overseas Filipinos to remain vigilant and for embassies and consulates to assume readiness.
