MANILA — Philippine National Police (PNP) spokesman Senior Supt. Wilben Mayor on Tuesday clarified the renovation of detention centers were not meant for the high profile personalities implicated in the P10-billion pork barrel scam.

Mayor said he has not yet spoken about the names of those personalities who would possibly be detained in Camp Crame in Quezon City, as well as the “bunggalo” that these personalities will be detained in.

The PNP chief spokesman added he cannot speak about the detention center and the involved personalities in the pork barrel scam because a warrant of arrest has yet to be issued.

“Anything that we do, that is for the upgrading of our facilities. (The renovation) is not intended for a particular group,” Mayor said.

He also mentioned about the treatment to be served to those who will be sent to the custodial center but he has not yet named the personalities who could possibly be sent to the PNP custodian center.

Mayor reiterated that the standard conditions inside a cell require the construction of basic facilities, such as comfort rooms, as well as the installation of electric fans due to the weather condition. ‎

He also said that the PNP was merely complying with the standards of the international human rights, requiring the condition inside detention cells to be humane.

“We should emphasize that they are still detainees. Everyone is presumed innocent unless proven otherwise,” Mayor added.
