Filipino student wins Microsoft’s YouthSpark Challenge
Alongside students from India, Mexico and the United States, Dominic Co, a 19-year-old Filipino student bagged the grand prize in Microsoft’s YouthSpark Challenge for Change.
Among Co’s advocacies include the promotion of nationalism and appreciation of Philippine literature with his libroko.com site.
”Filipino works, such as (national hero Dr. Jose Rizal’s) Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo, have lost some of their relevance especially to the young people who readthem more than a hundred years later. The internet, along with the latest Microsoft technologies, could provide a channel for the youth to rediscover these works,” Co said in a report from Yahoo! News.
The winners will receive a $2,500 cash grant, and a Microsoft technology bundle including a Windows Phone 8 and Xbox One, plus a volunteer trip to the Amazon.
