Duterte appoints former actor Jeremy Marquez to HUDCC
President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday appointed Jeremy Marquez, son of former Parañaque City Mayor Joey Marquez, as the Deputy Secretary General of Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC).
The actor-turned-politician Jeremy Marquez is the former barangay chairman of BF Homes, after becoming the president of Parañaque City’s Liga ng mga Barangay. He also served as one of the members of Sangguniang Panlungsod or City Council.
In the early 2000s, before he fully entered the politics, Marquez also tried the showbiz industry and performed on several TV shows.
Marquez graduated with the Bachelor’s degree in Political Science at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas in Cavite. He ran in the 2016 elections under the Nacionalista Party but lost to Rico Golez who was declared Vice Mayor of Paranaque.
Secretary of Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Martin Andanar, said that the President had compelling reasons in appointing officials for the vacancies, after receiving criticism that his appointees are not qualified for the post.
The HUDCC secretary general is tasked to oversee the functions of the different operating groups and assist the Secretary General in managing the day-to-day operations of the agency.
Duterte signed Marquez’s appointment letter on August 10; aside from Marquez he also signed papers of other 24 appointees.
“Pursuant to the provisions of existing laws, you are hereby appointed deputy secretary general, Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council,” the appointment paper read. “By virtue hereof, you may qualify and enter upon the performance of the duties of the office, furnishing this Office and the Civil Service Commission with copies of your oath of office.”
