Alejano to Duterte: “Attack the root cause of problems, not the victims”
Magdalo Party-list Representative Gary Alejano on Sunday denounced President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.
In his Facebook page, Alejano expressed his disappointment in the administration’s take on suppressing the illegal drugs in the Philippines.
Alejano pointed out that the administration should focus on legislative initiatives rather than compromising the worth of human life.
“Attack the root cause of problems, not the victims,” he said.
President Duterte concluded during his campaign that the primary illness of the country is the rampant transaction of illegal drugs.
The President’s recent statement at the Philippine Development Forum: Sulong Pilipinas 2017 has received criticisms when he said that the problem on drugs could not be fixed in the Philippines by a single president in a one term.
“Look, these shabu and drugs, et cetera, cannot be solved by one man for a president for one term,” he said.
Alejano recalled President Duterte’s given deadline to put war on drugs to end. “It is a welcome development that President Duterte already acknowledges the fact that he cannot solve the drug problem in the country in 3-6 months which he promised, in one year, or even within his term as President.”
On Friday night, President Duterte gave a speech in Davao City before medical practitioners. Duterte said that the United Stated is also facing the same problem on suppressing illegal drugs.
“Sabi ko, ang America na America, naging America na iyan, hindi nga niya makontrol iyong drugs, tayo pa kaya? (Even America can’t control illegal drugs. How can we?), he said.
Alejano also said that if the President’s focal point is to liberate the safety of the citizen, the President should revisit his deadly war on drugs that has so far cost over ten thousand Filipino lives.
Congressman Alejano added, the root of the illegal drugs is the incapacitated criminal justice system of the country, “Therefore, let us attack the problem head on and not the victims of this failure in the system!” Alejano stressed.
Philippines is also known as one of the major drug-transit country in Asia, the country is now facing several news regarding politicians associated in the operation of illegal drugs.
The Lawmaker strongly believed, the “reformation’ should be the priority of the administration— modernizing and professionalizing the law enforcement agencies such as the PNP.

Hey, a man with a brain, maybe we should arrest him and put him in jail for his own good because his kind is becoming extinct here. Oh no, sorry forgot, we cannot protect anyone in jail, not even from the good guys on the outside. Good luck, Gary Alejano, and Godspeed.
