ILOILO CITY, Aug. 11— Thirteen patients from Iloilo are the initial recipients of the medical assistance program extended by the office of Senator Nancy Binay coursed through the office of City Councilor Joshua Alim.

The staff of Senator Binay arrived in this city on Friday to validate the list of patients whose medical abstracts and referrals were submitted to her office.

Councilor Alim said that the medical assistance is extended to patients  admitted either in public or private hospitals.  A check is sent directly to the hospital where the patient was confined.

“This is her way of thanking the people of Iloilo City,” Alim said. Most of those who trooped to Alim’s office were undergoing dialysis, suffering from diabetes or about to undergo operation.

Binay’s office also extended assistance to a family whose patient has already died but still have unpaid bills in the hospital.

Alim advised those who wanted to seek help to just avail their benefit from the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth) and just send the remaining bill to the office of Binay.

As long as the fund is there, Alim said that the processing of the payment is fast.

The assistance is open to residents of the city and province of Iloilo.
