MANILA — Reynaldo Macapagal, a 56-year-old cigarette vendor, was declared dead at the hospital after sustaining head and leg injuries when a PNR train slammed on a passenger jeepney Monday afternoon.
Police reports say the incident happened in Sampaloc, Manila. Macapagal was on his way to Avenida, according to his son.
Meanwhile, six people were hurt and brought to a nearby hospital for medical attention.
Investigation showed that the jeepney crossed the railroad track despite the warning signs of an approaching train. The jeepney driver Ronald Valdez, 39, will be charged with reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and multiple injuries.
Valdez reportedly smelled of alcohol when apprehended by the police.
