MANILA — The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is set to start next week the eight-month rehabilitation work on the third level of the Magallanes interchange in Makati City.

DPWH-National Capital Region (NCR) Director Reynaldo Tagudando said the rehabilitation work is needed to restore the integrity of the 39-year-old structure.

“We need to rehabilitate the Magallanes interchange to restore its integrity. The defect is at the third level. Some parts of the concrete pavement are already broken, the expansion joints are already damaged. So we are planning on installing carbon fiber, reinforcement polymer fiber and then apply asphalt,” he added.

The DPWH official said they will begin with the work immediately after the World Economic Forum (WEF) on East Asia, which the Philippines is hosting for the first time from May 21 to 23.

The project costs P140 million and is estimated to be finished early next year, either January or February.

Tagudando said that there is no need to close the two- lane (north and south bound) road as they will work on it one lane at a time and this will be conducted during night time.

“There would be no road closure. There are two lanes (for each direction). We would only work one lane at a time and keep the other lane open.
