VP Leni cites need of Brigada Eskwela stakeholders’ support
MANILA—Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo on Tuesday said the active participation of stakeholders in the annual “Brigada Eskwela” is badly needed to show their children that all problems can be solved with their help.
Robredo visited Balara Elementary School in Quezon City after she was advised that four classrooms need total rehabilitation.
She also said she wants to help solve malnutrition in that school after she learned that a big number of elementary pupils skip breakfast before going to school.
She admitted that she was dismayed after learning that only a few parents or guardians joined Brigada Eskwela, a yearly event before the school year starts.
“Dapat hikayatin iyong lahat nagpa-participate kasi isa itong community activity na hindi ma-e-enjoy ng magkakasama pero parang pinapaalala na lahat tayo may stake sa paaralan sa ating community,” she noted.
She said she started participating in this program when she was still a private citizen joining her husband who was then the mayor of Naga City.
“Kaya ako naman mula noon, mayor pa asawa ko at wala pa ako sa pulitika, hanggang naging congresswoman ako, hanggang ngayon, talagang I make it a point na sumasali sa Brigada Eskwela,” she stressed.
