The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) recorded a double-digit increase in tax collections in September, with preliminary figures showing stronger revenue generation during the first nine months of 2026.
Data released by the bureau on October 15 showed gross collections reached ₱203.58 billion as of October 13, up 10.9 percent from the same month last year.
BIR Commissioner Charlito Martin Mendoza attributed the increase to voluntary tax compliance and efforts to help taxpayers meet their obligations. These initiatives were carried out by the bureau’s revenue regions, Large Taxpayers Service and other support units.
Mendoza said the agency aims to make tax compliance more accessible and efficient while improving taxpayer services.
The upward trend was also reflected in the bureau’s year-to-date performance. From January to September, gross collections climbed 5.58 percent to ₱2.465 trillion.
The BIR is one of the government’s principal revenue-generating agencies, with collections helping finance public services, infrastructure projects and other national government priorities.
Mendoza said the bureau would continue implementing reforms to make its services more responsive to taxpayers and encourage timely, accurate payment of taxes.
The latest figures are preliminary and reflect collections recorded as of October 13.
