CALAMBA CITY, Laguna — Deputy Majority Leader Sen. Risa Hontiveros and the Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation on Wednesday headed to Calamba, Laguna, to hold its second public consultation regarding the “Kontra Dinasitya” bill.
“Nandito tayo upang maghanap ng konkretong alituntunin para labanan ang kultura ng dinastiya,” Hontiveros said in an opening statement.
(We’re here to find concrete guidelines to fight the culture of political dynasties.)
The bill is among the notable 21 LEDAC priority measures approved by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The passage of an anti-political dynasty law will mainly fulfill the Constitution’s indicated mandate for Congress to ban the existence of dynastic families across levels of government.
The committee previously held a public consultation in Pasig City on Monday, from which Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto also expressed support, saying the proposed law does not prevent any individuals from running for public office but rather it will curb the concentration of power in the hands of a few.
