QUEZON CITY — Mamamayang Liberal Rep. Leila de Lima on Tuesday, February 10, led the filing of measures advocating for the environment, animal welfare, and the investigation into the country’s pressing environmental issues.
De Lima was joined by actress and advocate Nadine Lustre and esteemed animal welfare organizations, including the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) and PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).
The measures submitted to the House were named “Gulay para sa Kalusugan at Kalikasan Act” (House Bill No. 7697) and the “Animal Welfare Enforcement Act” (HB 7696), along with a resolution enacting investigations into environmental issues.
“These meaningful measures reflect our shared responsibility to care for our health, environment, and the animals that are part of our daily lives. How we treat and protect them is a test of our humanity. As living creatures created by God, each and every one of us has value in life,” de Lima wrote on a post.
